Acer to Postpone Smartphone Launch to First Quarter of 2009

Taiwan-based Acer expects to launch its first own-branded Smartphone in the first quarter of 2009, Economic Daily News of Taiwan reported quoting Acer Group CEO JT Wang. Following the official incorporation of E-TEN Information Systems as a mobile phone business unit under the Acer Group in September 2008, Acer has sped up its deployment in the mobile phone market. Previously Acer slated the rollout of it first Smartphone for year-end 2008. However, according to said report, JT Wang revealed on December 4 that the Acer-branded Smartphone will make its debut at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, in February 2009. Meanwhile, Acer has also been seeking collaboration with major telecom operators on market rollout.
